well, jane austen considered that women’s place in the society was not as much as men’s place, thats because women all the time was caring about their family,so womens where important in the society ´cause they made their family go through the right way.
She created a character like elizabeth bacause she wanted to showedhow was the reality of some girls that had mothers that obligated them to married with somebody that they didn´t love, and the message she wanted to pass was that we have to fight for our wishes and don´t lose the forces to continue fighting.
well in some places money and class continue been an important factor in our time…and sometimes if you don´t have money or something like that, some people will discriminate you.
As we saw in the story, marriage was an important thing in that time, that´s why all the mothers were worried about their daughter´s life and looked husbands for them.
Nowadays getting married is not an obligation or simply something to satisfied our mother´s wishes, bacause if we start a relationship it´s why we love the person and we want somthing serious with him or her, so having a relationship is important not because it´s an obligation, it´s important because you make it like that

  2. fiorella vidal-Peru

she thinks that women where very important in the society because they always were taking care of their family, they were like the support to form their children. She created a character like elizabeth bacause she wanted to showed how some girls married for obligation, just because they wanted to have a better future and this in a example of how important was the money for them, it give them some position in the society.
well i think that nowadays we have the opportunity to married with someone we choose and love, and this is very important, we are the responsables of our acts, noone force us to do something that we dont want.

  3. Andrea Cuentas

I think, Jane`s perception was that wemen were not taken into consideration because they couldn`t express their opinion and if they did it, men disagree with it.
She created a character like Elizabeth because she wanted people to realise what was happening at that time and also to made people understand that life would be better if we show our “elizabeth”, because everybody in some moment of their life want to be different from the rest and express their opinion without apologizing for it.
Well, I feel it still because nowadays we see that people prefer appearances than been natural.Class still too because many times society discriminate poor people who are from the low class. There are also marriages because of convinience instead of love which is not right, but people think that if it gives you a high level, love can wait . All of this problems happen because of money which is the principal cause of human beings problems.
Marriages were very important, they were as important as having a name, because marriages gave people more power and a wrong appearance, the appearance of a happy family, but it was not like that. Nowadays, the situation is different sometimes people marriage but some others don´t it all depends on what the couple want and not in what family expect from them. It`s not an obligation , you choose.

  4. Patty Vigil Murillo

well, I think that the perception of Jane Austen consist that in those years the women didn´t were as much as the men, but they were very important in the society because they make their family get through necessity and have really good life.
Elisabeth was created because June wanted to show how was the life in the past and how much the young women had suffer to get what they wanted. Moreover the marriage that young women were forced, were to someone that don´t love or maybe that even don´t know very well. Also, I think that Elisabeth represent like an icon of a strong, happy, decided and proud woman that despite of all those problems she had to pass through, she got what she wanted … that was … to be happy. The message she wanted to pass was that we, no matter what, must have hope and believe in our wishes until they became real.
Nowadays, the money and class are very important in some places of our country. Sometimes those people get in the extreme to descriminate and make feel insuperior some other people who have resources enough to survive.
The marriage was very important to women in the past. But in 2006 that´s not a highlight topic. Nowadays, many couples decided to get married or not, it´s not an obligation. And if you get married is because you wanted to and you love that person.

  5. Tanya Garcia Roeder - Peru

Jane Austen know that being a man was more easy at that time but she also thinks that the woman are important because in the story the woman had to take care of her family.
She create a character like Elisabeth because she wanted to tell us how was the life of a woman, how strong they had to be to survive in a men’s society.
In Austen’ time the money was very important, it gave a good position in the society, almost married was very important, a woman had to be married.
Nowadays, marriage or stable relationships are not important for women, women can be alone for all the time they want. It has change a lot, now a woman doesn’t need a man next to her to have a possition in the society.

  6. Pilar Cornejo

Jane Austen thinks that women’s place in the society was very important and also very necessary to take care of the family and giving them her support. But sometimes women were not taken into consideration because they couldn’t express their opinion
She created a character like Elizabeth because she wanted to showed us, how is the reality in some cases, when some mothers obligate her daughters to get married without loving her partner with the only objective of getting money and having a position in the society. The massage we can notice is that we have to fight for our wishes and don’t permit others to destroy them!
Well… I think that nowadays class and money continued been important for people in some places of our country, because they think that if they don’t have this kind of “things” there aren’t anything in our country and also they can be discriminate as each others.
Marriage was very important, because it gave people power and an exemplary appearance. Nowadays, we life in a society that we can choose if we want to get married or not, if we have the opportunity to get married, we can choose the person we think is the right and we love !!!!

  7. Melissa Aguirre

-I thinkJane Austen had the advantage of living in a period that looked a lot like the period in which the story develops .For this reason,I suppose it was easier for her to have a claer and true perception of women’s place in society.Examples of this are:not being able to have upper education ,not being able to decide or aplly for the job they wanted and just having as their main activity housework and their children’s education (in the case lower class women)and organising parties or social events and controling and being sure their servants do things correctly (in tha case of upper class women).
2.-I think she created a character like Elizabeth for the simple reason of showing her readers that society at that time was not as perfect as it pretended to be ,I mean, not all women at that time were able to follow the ”society rules”and as Elizabeth just wanted to live in a free and different way guided by feelings and instic instead of folowing appearances.I think she also did it to demonstrate in an inderect way that in that period society was to hipocrit and didn’t want to realize that not all the people agreed to what was already established.
3.-In my opinion ,nowadays ,class, money and appearances are still very important to our society;although not in the same way as in that period .Now these 3 aspects are important for all the people in different levels, for example, class and money are very important to be”somebody” and to succeed in life while appearances usually are part of social realations btween all the people in a society.
4.-In Jane’s Austen time, marriage was one of the most important aspects in women’s life .Now ,not only marriage but also realtionships have totally different”rules”,I mean, society gives women the chanceto chose freely the person she wants to share her life with, without putting so many obstacles as it dis in that period. On the other hand, something that has also changed is the necessity of getting married;now it is not an obligation or a bad thing that women decide not tomarry and have a totally independant life.

  8. Carolina Del Castillo-Perú

In Jane Austen’s society women are very considered because they are always taking care of their families, especially for their children. She create the character of Elizabeth because she wanted to demostraded the reality of some women who had been obligated by their parents to got married with a person they considered good for them and the message she wanted to pass is for those people who are in the same situation of Elizabeth to don’t lose the hope and figth for make their wishes true with the person they love because that are their lives and they decided not others.
Nowadays, our society is not as much diferent as Jane’s society was. Actually the thing more important for all people in the world is to make money and live a kind of life they consider is the good one acording the position they are in the society.
Besides this, in Austen’s time it was very important to women got married with a good position man and had a family, that was the reason why mothers were so preocupated of their daugthers futures. From my point of view, the married is not an obligation for women who wants to feel satisfated with theirselfs, they could live a life wathever they want withot forces by someone else, even they families.

  9. Ma.Carmen del Aguila

Jane Austen thinked that women were not as important as men, but women´s place in the society were very appreciated because they take care of their families.
She created a character like Elizabeth because she wanted to show that some girls were obligated by their mothers to married without love and how important was the money in the society for them.
Nowadays, getting married is not an obligation, or to satisfied the wishes of our mothers we have the opportunity to get married with someone
that we love and we choose.

  10. Marile nieto Perú

jane austen’s perception was the one of her time, women as objets without a brain. they were just ment to be wifes and mothers but they could not express themselves or did their will. I believe this was jane ausen’s reason to create someone like elizabeth, in order to complain agains the society of her time. Elizabeth was a different kind of woman, with a mind of her own, a condition jane austen wante dfor all women.
I think society has not changed at all, as money and position are as important nowdays as they were in that time.
Marriage was the most imorant for women, relation wee also, as social life was imortant. It was like a cycle as good relations were important in order to be able to get married and been married with a respectable man was important if you wanted to have good relations.

  11. After reading some chapters of the book I think that Jane Austen tried to show us the way they saw women at that time: as a fundamental part of the family. Because since they were born they were taught to be mother and wife. But at the same she created a character as Elizabeth because she wanted to proved that there were a lot of women that were different form the rest, and tried to change the roll of women in society, that’s why Elizabeth was brave and intelligent, a real different specie of woman (at that time).
About the money and appearance it was really important at Austen’s time and nowadays we are involve in the same problem: all that matters is money.

If we talk about marriage, I think that nowadays is not as important as that time. If women are 40 and they are not married is not such a big problem.

  12. valerie giese lagos

her perception is that she is a women from the time she live on, part of the family, with kids and all the family. she create that charapter, because jane want to show us tha human part of a woman, that make a diferent from the rest like elizabeth- because on that society thing was so hard

  13. valerie giese

well i think that in our society the thing has not change, and it still be so important, and money still so very important that than the family and friend in some cases.
as we read in the book marriage was so important, but now a days that have change a lot women don’t need a man to survive or to be independence

  14. Well, for Jane Austen women take a good place in society because they used to take care of their families, but they were not as important as men.
she created Elizabeth because she wanted to show as how was life in the past and how much the young women suffer to get what they wanted also that their mother obligate them to got married with a person they considered good.
I think that nowadays money is not as important as it was. Because times have changed.
In the past, they used to think that money was the only thing to survive.
Yes, it was really important at that time but now is more important the comfort of women, they can used: if they want they can get married and if don’t it wont be a

  15. Claudia Zegarra

Jane austen considered that women were important in the society because they were the support of their familiys and they made them go throught they ride way.
She created a character like elizabeth bacause she reprsented a girl that wanted to be different and always fighted for her dreams :D !The message she wanted to pass was that we, no matter what, must have hope and believe in our wishes until they come true.
Nowadays ,class, money and appearances are still very important ,actually the thing more important for all people in the world is to make money and got an important appearence.
I think that nowadays is not as important as that time, having a relationship is important not because it´s an obligation, it´s important because you love that person…and choose him o her to life happy for rest of your life.

  16. María Gracia Buendía

From my point of view, Jane Austen’s perception of the place of women in her society is that they are really important and that they can have the opportunity to demostrate they are able to do other things apart from staying at home, and doing the housework, such as making dessicions that had always been made by men.
Jane wants to express in her book disagreement with the society for the posicion that women have, that’s why she create a character like Elizabeth that has freedom, and has her her own opinion, showing diferrence from her mother and sisters.
Our society is like hers, because day by day you can see that appearance, class and your economical position are important for getting a job, being well seen and in general to be accepted.
Marriage and stable relationships are not important as they were in this society because we have the image that what really matters is love and because nowadays there are so many divorces that many people don’t believe in marriage.:D

  17. milagros maldonado -Peru

well, i think Jane austin´s perception, was that women only had to take care of the family, she was the main piece of it.
Jane creates a character like Elizabeth, because she wants to show as how some girls couldn´t married with someone she loves, and they only worried about the future and the money, also how was the society of her time, but in the case of Elizabeth, she was different, with a mind of her own, she only wants to be free.
I think that society has not changed, class, money and appearence are still important, but not in the same way like that period. Nowadays, people think money is basic for life.
marriage is very important for a woman, actually we respect the decisions of everybody, and they can have an stable relationship, the most important is that you love that person.

  18. Maria Fernanda Rodriguez

In my opinion, Jane Austen´s perception of women is that they are very important in society. They organize events, the are encharge of taking care of a family, etc.But it only reduces to that.I think that in this book, women´s place is being next to her husband and children and participating in social events, and that must be their only concern.
Elizabeth was an independent character, with freedom and strong opinions, in comparison to the other women in the story, who were very silly. She was different.I think Jane Austen reflected her personality in Elizabeth´s because she was a woman advanced to her time.Maybe she wanted women in that time to know that being different is not wrong.
Society hasn´t change very much in that aspects.Class, money and appearances are very important. Now, money is all that matters. And most people care a lot in what others say.
Marriage was extremely important in that time, specially for women, because it garantied their stability and security, it didn´t matter very much if they were in love.I think now marriage is not as important but it continues being a tradition that we keep and respect. But now, in marriage and relanshonships, love does count.:D

  19. Rocío Lorena Lara

Well, I think that Jane Austen’s perception was to show us how important people women were at that time, and to make clear that they were not only encharge of taking care of their families but to participate in the events that took place in London.
Elizabeth had a very extroverted character that wasn’t common in her time. I think Jane Austen created that character because it reflected her own personality and introduced in Elizabeth her own thoughts.
I think she wanted to say that being different from the rest is not wrong and that showing who you really are is very important.
Our society is not completely different from hers, because if you want to get a job, any kind of facility or even to be well seen by other people, you have to show manners, a good economical position and good appearance.
In Jane Austen’s time, marriage was very important for everyboby, but specially for young women. It was thought that women should married rich man for supporting their families.
I think here is not much to compare with actuallity eather, because every women would like to marry rich man to live more confortable and to be well seen by other people.

  20. Roxana Lopez-Peru

Jane Austen thought that women in her sociaty were not as important as men were, is not that women were not important, they were, women’s place in sociaty was very considered because they always took care of their family, educated children, etc.
I think Jane created Elizabeth because she wanted to let us know the women reality, how thy were obligated to married with someone the didn’t want to, ando apart from that, how women fought for what they wanted.

  21. karla Vallejos_ Perú

1.-In my opinion Jane Austen criticed th limition that women in her age couldn´t be able to have an upper education or even apply for a job because men thought that womens weren´t capable of doing the things that they did. And the only responsability that womens had, was brought up their children and keep and organize the house. Women in that age was like an exhibition doll that go out only when her husband wanted to.
2.-Maybe Jane Austen invented a character like Elizabeth because she was like Elizabeth. She didn´t thought that men were better than womens, in fact, she realised that women didn´t need a man to have sucess.
3.-I think that class, money and appearances are still quite important in our society because in most cases you money or influences to have opportunity in live. Nowadays, many people want to keep appearances because of what people would say, of courese not as in jane austen´s age.
4.- In my opinion, Marriage is important but is not all in live for a women. Have someone in your future live is important but is not something that women need to sucess.

  22. Laura nieto Perú

1.- Jane Austen perception is that a woman had the obligation to be married and to be mother. Women in that period couldn´t study because people thought it would be a waste of time.
2.-She created a character like Elizabeth because she represents the free.
3.-Only in part, because we have more facilities but people still thinking in that way.
4.-In that time was very important to be married, now at days is not an obligation or something too important.

  23. Mariana Hurtado

Well, I think that Jane Austen´s perception was that women were the slave of their own family, women only grew up to became wives, cook and do the housework.
Jane Austen might create a character like Elizabeth because she wanted to transmit to all women that they had the right to choose their destiny, love and that they were able to think and have an education.
Time had pass but the appearences and the money are still important for our society, people has the wrong idea that people with money are better than people without it.
Marriage was important for women in Austen’s time? In your opinion, how important are marriage or stable relationships for women nowadays?

For a woman in Austen`s time getting married was the most important aspect for the life of a women, with it they felt like they at the top of the happiness knowing that since that day they had a good economical and by the way a social status.
Nowadays married is`t the best thing that could happen to a women we are more projected to our carriers and work, and then for making a family.

  25. Fabiola La Rosa Camino

I believe, she thought that women had no chance to choose what they really want. That they were limited of doing several things and also if they wanted something and they couldn’t get it, they just gave up. That’s why she creates Elizabeth because she wants to show us that we (men and women) are very important and if we want something we can get it with a lot of effort. Things are not easy; we have to fight if we want to get them.
It’s true that class, money and appearances where quite important in Austen’ time. In our own society is the same. The majority of people are caring about how they look or what could people say.
In those times marriage was very important because women can get married with rich men, and her family can “socially ascend”. Nowadays you can choose the men or women you want to get married with, it doesn’t matter how many obstacles there are. On the other hand, been married it’s no an obligation, you can stay alone or dedicate your life studying.

  26. Gabriela Villón

    1. I think Jane Austen´s preception of women was that they all depended of men, so their roll in the society was to be in disposition of men, to attend them and to have all in order in the house.
    2. In my opinion Jane Austen created a character like Elizabeth because in those times women followed the same patron: they only mind in the superficial things. Elizabeth was not like that, she did what her feelings told her to do. Her message was to do what you think, don´t matter what the rest think, she wanted to pass this as sometimes people do things only because another person is doing that. I s noy bad to imitate people but there is a limit, and when we pass thet limit we should think in what we really want to do.
    3. Our society demands that, but not with the same importance as in those days. Nowdays, people is realising that money is not the most important thing in the world, this also happens with appearance.
    4. Nowdays marriege (for women) is not as important as in Austen´s time. Is a natural fact that women should get married and have children, but now there are other things to care about like study and work, si marriage is not the priority an has passed to a second place in some cases.
    Lima-Perú

  27. The Jane Austin´s story shows women like objects that parents offered to married. On the other hand some women are powerfull like Lady Catherine.
Elizabeth is a character that doesn´t accept her parents decision aboust marriadge. She rebelled because she followed her feelings about men.
I think that, nowadays the appearence, class and money are so important than in that time. On the other hand the meaning of the marriadge nowadays is extremally different. Women doesn´t married to have money. Women works to have money. I think that, in this sense, it has been changed.

  28. Claudia Alvarez

    1. Jane Austen believed that women in those times were not respected and didn’t have the same rights as man, for example, they couldn’t study, they were supposed to stay at home taking care of children, cleaning and doing those kind of activities. Also, they usually didn’t have the right to choose who will be their husbund.
    2. Jane Austen created a character like Elizabeth to represent a woman from the past, specially a woman that belonged to a family that wanted her to be married and that wanted to choose her groom only to have a “good impression” for society; and also to demonstrate that in those times women’s opinion was not so important, and they didn’t mind who they were getting married with, they were usually attracted by the money or just had to accept what their family decided.
    3. Nowadays, that it’s also important, but not as much as in the past, because we are always carring about the appearence, money, and all those superficial things. This world is always showing you that all those things make you a “better person”, but we all know that this is something temporary, because the most important thing is what we have in our hearts, what will exist forever.
    4. In those times marriage was really very important for women as long as it was like a rule to be “normal” or not to have a “bad impression” in the society. Nowadays, this kind of things had changed, because now women can choose and do what they want. It is not so important to get married or have a stable relationship because it depends of each one, but society will always be there complaining about what people do or not, there will always be prejudices.

  29. Andre - Porto Alegre

In my opinion, nowadays marriage is not so important as it was in Austen’s time because women are more independent and the customs have changed a lot since those times.
Now women can work on a wide range of jobs that they couldn’t before. In this way, they can earn their own money and take the lead of their lives.
The importance of marriage has been changed nowadays, the liberty of divorce and equality between men and women have made the relationship more open and the rights equal.

  30. In Austen’s time, class, money and appearances were important all the time because the social place in society was important to determine a person’s marriage choice. This was the only way to get a wealthy husband and achieve a new position in society.

Nowadays, society values marriage but the skills to get married have changed. Some people believe that achievement and money and very important but other people think happiness and family are extremely necessary because peopl still dream of it.

  31. Pedro Ferreira

    1. For us class, money and appearances are still important in our society, especially money. Today, money is a kind of passport to enter the ‘high society’. We talked in class about the soccer players who were born poor and don’t have a traditional family name but can live in the same places and wear the same clothes these ‘traditional’ people.

    2. Nowadays, marriage or stable relationships are not so important for women as they were in Austen’s time. For me, women are thinking about their careers and their professional development instead of having children and getting married.

  32. Mariana Araujo - Porto Alegre

In Austen’s time marriage was everything for women because theyneeded marriage to have a home and money. So sixteen year-old girls were already thinking of marriage.
Nowadays, it is quite different because women work and can ‘survive’ without a man. But women still want to get married for other reasons like love. Of course, there are still girls who want to get married to a rich man to have a comfortable life; the problem is that it’s difficult men that accept this situation.
All in all, now it is different the way women see marriage, but they still want it.

  33. Vantuir Swarowsky

    4. It was very important in the past that a woman could find a good man to marry. One of the reasons for that was the economic dependency women had on men. Only men worked out and got money. Nowadays, women get they independence and the society in general doesn’t give so much importance to marriage or stable relationships. In the past when a couple ended their relationship it was a tragedy; nowadays, it’s just normal.
